The Soccer Stadium was commissioned at the time when the 2001 soccer game of national athletic tournament (division of the junior) promoting "lifetime sporting" was held in Shichigahama. Soccer is popular in this town and the stadium was to accommodate two planes for the juniors, with natural grass for all season which was considered as a requirement.
The trapezoidal shaped site was previously a dumpsite for a power company and the ash was piled up about 20 meters high. The kind of grass used was finally decided upon examination of the ash, soil improvements of field plane and various combinations of their kinds during the construction period.
The long axis of the field is positioned north/south, the main stand (982 seats) along the west side and the sub stand with grasses (1400 seats) is placed along the east side. At the main stand, the seats are positioned around the centre where the game is most viewable. The rear aisle continues to arcuate the slope for safety. The main rooms (entrance hall, management room, meeting room, radio studio, waiting room for referee, etc.) below the main stand, are designed as open space with wooden fittings. The floor finish was chosen upon consideration of the soccer spikes worn by the players. The bow shaped plan which swells at the centre, is composed by superimposing the layout of upper stand on the multipurpose space. The top and bottom planes were supported by the lined pillar which is tilted at 15 degrees, forming the arc which harmonises with the in surrounding views.
